Why Augmented Reality for Education?

The age of spatial computing is upon us. Build augmented reality apps for education to enhance student and employee retention, visual attention, and create a high level of uplift in memory encoding. Augmented reality can be used in education to create immersive and interactive learning experiences for students of all ages and backgrounds. With mobile augmented reality, the potential for education is limitless, as students can access AR apps anytime and anywhere. AR can also benefit learners in corporate training scenarios or engineers, as they can simulate real-world situations and practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment. A good example of such application, is the app we built for TCPA (Texas Concrete Pipe Association), which you can see here

Accessible and Mobile Educational Tools

  • Increase learner engagement and motivation by providing personalized and interactive learning experiences.
  • Enhance learner autonomy and self-regulation by allowing learners to choose their own pace, level, and style of learning.
  • Foster collaboration and communication among learners and educators by enabling online discussions, feedback, and peer support.
  • Improve learner outcomes and performance by offering adaptive and formative assessment, feedback, and guidance.
  • Reduce educational barriers and inequalities by reaching learners who have limited access to traditional educational settings or resources.

Increased Student Engagement

  • The days of learning from just text books is over. The use of spatial computing and augmented and virtual reality are a necessity, especially in the age of digital natives. Learning is much more engaging, it’s fun, and allows students to see the material they’re learning spatially. This opens up their mind to seeing things differently. Literally, seeing cells or the solar system from a different perspective, and also allowing them to visualize things from different angles. The era of spatial computing is here, and it’s now a must to allow students to learn in ways that could only be imagined before.

Immersive and Effective Learning Opportunities

  • AR can create more engaging learning experiences for students, as it allows them to interact with the content in a more immersive and interactive way. For example, AR in education settings can help students visualize complex concepts, such as anatomy, chemistry, or physics, by overlaying 3D models and animations on their surroundings. AR can also provide feedback, guidance, or gamification elements to motivate and challenge students. By using AR, students can learn in a more active and meaningful way, rather than passively reading or watching.
  • At Augmented Island Studios, we created the first ever Education AR Helicopter Training app for both iOS and Android devices. It has been a great success with helicopter pilot students, as it has allowed them to understand complex aerodynamics concepts, and to essentially “carry” a practice helicopter around with them in their mobile device, to go through their pre-flight exercises. You can download this app here: AR Helicopter Training on the App Store (apple.com)

Applicable for Any Level of Education or Training

  • Augmented reality (AR) can provide benefits for professional development and on-the-job training in different industries, such as healthcare, education, manufacturing, and tourism. AR can help workers learn new skills, access relevant information, and improve their performance. For example, AR can enable medical students to practice surgical procedures on virtual patients, engineers can learn installation procedures, pilots can practice pre-flights or micro-movements for hovering, and much more.

01

We Have a Proven Track Record

We have collaborated with some of the most famous brands in the world and created some of our own products.

Our company has experts in design, branding, and development who can create what you imagine.

02

Our Agency Is Small and Agile, Aiming To Become an Extension of Your Team

We work closely with you to understand your needs and goals, and to deliver the best results for your project. Our agency is small and agile, which allows us to adapt to your changing requirements and become part of your team.

We can integrate with your existing tools (such as Slack or Asana) and communication channels to make the work flow smoothly, if that's what you prefer.

03

We’re on Time, Every Time

We hear many stories of other AR agencies that keep pushing back their deadlines during projects. They make you wait and wait and wait. And sometimes they never finish their projects.

We are different. We plan realistic and clear schedules so that you can launch your new campaign or project on time with our help.

Products in Education

AR Apps for Kids at Home and in the Classroom

We had a lot of fun creating a peanut butter and jelly carnival experience for a PB&J frozen product that invited kids to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in an augmented reality setting. When the product box was scanned, kids saw a booth come up that invited them to make the sandwiches by switching between slices of bread, peanut butter, and jelly. When a sandwich was completed, they scored points. Here’s a wonderful video showing the experience, just click here.

AR Apps for Distance Learning

We created a wonderful application for helicopter pilots, called AR Helicopter Training. Although not fully a distance learning application, it does allow students to practice aerodynamics lessons, preflights, and hovering micro movements wherever they have their mobile device. It’s a wonderful example of how augmented reality can aid a student in distance learning. You can watch a quick video here

AR for Professional Training and Development

One of the best use cases for augmented reality is the ability to train professionals in a myriad of different fields. By overlaying digital information onto the physical world, AR can provide interactive and immersive learning experiences. For instance, medical students can practice complex surgeries without the risk of harming a patient, while mechanics can visualize the inner workings of an engine without disassembling it. Moreover, educational AR can simulate real-world scenarios that would be too dangerous or costly to recreate, such as firefighting or space exploration. Thus, augmented reality holds the potential to revolutionize professional training, making it more effective, engaging, and accessible.

We built a fantastic application to train new engineers in the concrete pipe business, which has been successfully used by the TCPA (Texas Concrete Pipe Association) for over five years. Here you can see a full description of it, along with a video: TCPA ENGINEER TRAINING PROGRAM – Augmented Island Studios

AR for Marketing in the Education Industry

Augmented Reality (AR) is an innovative way to promote educational institutions. We collaborated with The College of William and Mary Mason School of Business to design an AR experience for their accepted students. The students received an email with a QR code that launched an AR app. The app allowed them to explore the business school in a virtual tour and learn about the benefits and features of the William & Mary MBA program. The app used storytelling techniques to engage and inform the students. Here is a video that demonstrates this experience: Augmented Island Studios William & Mary Augmented Reality Acceptance Video (Vimeo)

We’ve also worked with their Entrepreneurship Center to create an AR filter of the Griffin, the school’s mascot, which students could use at homecoming and other sporting events!
